How to Measure for a Dog Car Hammock
Share
A dog car hammock is a fit-sensitive product. Measure your car before ordering so the setup protects the right area, keeps needed buckles accessible, and does not make everyday loading harder.

Quick answer
Measure the usable rear-seat width, seat depth, headrest access, buckle location, door opening, and your dog's normal loading path. Then compare those notes with the hammock's central panel and full-layout dimensions.
Current WagZivo hammock reference dimensions
- Full unfolded layout: approximately 80.9 x 64.6 inches.
- Central rear-seat panel: approximately 51.6 inches wide.
- Construction: supplier-identified 600D Oxford layered hammock with side flaps, mesh window, pockets, straps, anchors, and buckles.
- Required checks: rear bench width, four accessible headrests, rear buckle access, and door clearance.
1. Measure the usable rear-seat width
Measure the flat area where your dog will sit or lie down. Do not rely only on the outside door-to-door width because bolsters, buckles, armrests, and curved door panels can reduce usable space. Compare your number with the hammock's central panel width.
2. Check seat depth and footwell coverage
Measure from the rear seat back toward the front seats in the position you normally drive. A hammock can help contain mess around the footwell, but it does not create a crash-tested platform. Make sure your dog still has enough room to settle without stepping into unsupported gaps.
3. Confirm headrest access
Most hammock setups need front and rear headrest attachment points. Confirm that all four headrests are present, accessible, and shaped in a way that lets straps sit securely. If your vehicle has fixed or unusual headrests, inspect the product photos and return policy before ordering.
4. Check buckles, passengers, and child-seat anchors
Decide whether rear buckles, child-seat anchors, vents, armrests, or a split seat need to stay usable. If rear passengers often share the seat, a hammock may be less convenient than a simpler cover. If the rear seat is mostly your dog's space, the fuller coverage may be worth the extra setup.
5. Watch the loading path
Open the door your dog usually uses and notice where paws land first. Side flaps can help with that high-contact area, but they should not interfere with door closure or make loading more stressful. Large dogs and low cars may need extra room at the door edge.
When this hammock may not fit
- Your rear bench is much wider or narrower than the listed central panel.
- Your vehicle lacks accessible front and rear headrests.
- Seat-belt buckles or child-seat anchors must remain uncovered on every ride.
- Your dog rides in the cargo area instead of the rear bench.
- You need a certified restraint. This hammock is for cleanliness, comfort, and coverage.
